Dr. Haidar Abdel Shafi Center for Culture and Development Participates in a Learning Meeting on the Right to Land Dr. Haidar Abdel Shafi Center for Culture and Development participated in a learning meeting organized by the Land and Housing Rights Network on the general comment on the right to land as part of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. Joseph Schekla, the network's director, pointed to the dialogues taking place between civil society circles on the one hand and between them and UN organizations on the other. He addressed the most important observations and comments that emphasize the rights of indigenous peoples to retain their land and the necessity of opposing actions that lead to the infringement of these rights. On his part, Mohsen Abu Ramadan, director of the center, said that the right to land is a central issue for the Palestinian people as it is a right of the indigenous people. He pointed out the importance of taking measures to confront the practices of the occupation, which confiscates lands, expels the indigenous population, and brings in new settlers in their place. Abu Ramadan stressed that the right to land is an integral part of the right to self-determination for the Palestinian people. It is worth noting that the workshop was conducted via Zoom with the participation of representatives from about thirty non-governmental organizations.
