Dr. Haider Abdul Shafi Center for Culture and Development organizes an open meeting with activist Mr. Mohammed Baraka on internal crime.
The Dr. Haider Abdul Shafi Center for Culture and Development organized an open meeting with activist Mr. Mohammed Baraka, head of the Arab Higher Monitoring Committee, to discuss the existential challenges facing our people internally, which are clearly highlighted by the spread and prevalence of crime, reaching unprecedented levels.
Mr. Mohammed Baraka stated that the phenomenon of crime is part of a Zionist plan aimed at fragmenting the unity of the Palestinian community, diverting awareness, and distracting the Palestinian street from its national issues, focusing instead on its own concerns.
He pointed out that from 1980 to 2000, the number of murder cases did not exceed 80, whereas since 2000, it has reached around 3000 cases, indicating that the crime wave is directed and organized, especially with the proliferation of weapons in the hands of criminal gangs.
He emphasized the need to confront the escalating national uprising of the people inside, culminating in the Brave Dignity Uprising in 2021.
He questioned why the police refuse to open files regarding murder cases and why criminals are not questioned or punished.
Baraka affirmed that combating crime requires unity, the formation of popular committees and vigilance committees, and exposing racist practices to the international community.
Baraka also discussed the strategic project supervised by the Monitoring Committee to confront violence and crime, which involves a group of specialized intellectuals, now being utilized by the local authorities council internally to raise awareness and preserve the unity of social fabric.
He stressed the importance of Palestinian national unity in confronting the policy of fragmentation and division practiced by the occupation.
Participants presented numerous proposals aimed at confronting challenges, especially the phenomenon of crime, emphasizing the importance of harnessing community resources to address the risks of crime and working to strengthen national resilience.
The session was moderated by Mr. Mohsen Abu Ramadan, Director of the Dr. Haider Abdul Shafi Center for Culture and Development.
