As part of its efforts to promote a
culture of civil peace, the Dr. Haider Abdel Shafi Center for Culture and
Development, in partnership with the Palestinian Independent Progressive
Democratic Forum, organized a dialogue session titled:
"The Role of Youth and Women in
Promoting Civil Peace in the Gaza Strip"
The session was held both in person
in Gaza and online via Zoom, bringing together a group of active community
members.
Several important contributions were
made during the session:
Mr. Mohsen Abu Ramadan, Director of
the Center, presented an analytical perspective on the role of civil society
organizations in enhancing civil peace.
Mr. Farid Murra, Rapporteur of the National Committee for Civil Peace,
emphasized the role of youth and women, highlighting the importance of engaging
with the Charter of Honor developed by the Committee to manage internal
conflicts through democratic dialogue and avoid exclusion and violence.
Ghaidaa Al-Shawa, a coordinator from the Center, spoke about the importance of
empowering youth and women during crises, and the Center's role in supporting
and integrating them into civil peace initiatives.
Diaa Abu Asr, a community activist, highlighted youth-led initiatives and their
impact in fostering coexistence, especially in Gaza.
Yasmin Al-Fayoumi, a media professional, discussed the role of women in
maintaining civil peace and the impact of community media in promoting a
culture of dialogue and peace.
The event concluded with remarks
from Mr. Mahmoud Al-Sheikh, Coordinator of the Forum, who praised the vitality
and enthusiasm of Gaza’s youth and their ability to create change despite
difficult circumstances.
The Center is currently working to
establish a youth network that will launch community initiatives to promote
civil peace and address internal tensions and divisions.
The session witnessed vibrant
participation from attendees who shared valuable insights and reaffirmed the
importance of supporting youth and women's participation in building social
peace.
